6 EXPERT HACKS OUR INTERIOR DESIGNERS SWEAR BY

2017_03_09_brettgoldstein_facebookafter_b-600x420

via Amy Wicks at Laurel & Wolf – When it comes to home design, we love a good mood board, and we’re all for collecting inspirational images on Pinterest, but nothing can replace the ease of working with an interior designer when you want to see a room come together fast (and on a budget!)

Here’s why: our designers have access to the best pricing–thanks to Laurel & Wolf’s longstanding relationships with all the best retailers and wholesalers–and they have years of experience in creating spaces that are deeply personal to their clients.

With this in mind, we asked a few of our favorite designers if they would be willing to spill their best design secrets; the hacks they use time and again, when they want to do a quick room makeover.

FOCUS ON A FOCAL WALL

Interior designer Lori Evans suggests honing in on one or two areas in your space. Love color? Paint one wall your favorite color and let everything pop! Love texture? Create a statement wall with some appeal. “Wood strips from your local home improvement store, wallpaper with some texture and fake brick paneling can enhance your room and make everything look richer,” she said.

Antique and Classic Boat Show

The Hudson River Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society is pleased to sponsor its annual classic boat show at the Hudson River Maritime Museum on historic Rondout Creek in Kingston, on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 10 am to 4pm. Boats arrive on Friday and there will be a parade of classics on Saturday at 4 pm, weather permitting.

The featured boat at this year’s Antique and Classic Boat Show is the custom built mahogany and teak 65-foot trawler, the Francis Marion. Designed by Walter J McInnis of Eldredge-McInnis and built in 1963, the Francis Marion was for many years on display at Mystic Seaport before moving to her new home port in Albany.

In addition to dock-side activities, the Hudson River Maritime Museum will hold a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. in the East Gallery as museum staff unveil the bell of the Cornell Steamboat Company Perseverance.
The Hudson River Maritime Museum was pleased recently to acquire the bell from the Cornell Steamboat Company tugboat Perseverance. The bell features the name of the vessel engraved on it, and the date, 1919, that the tug was built. The Perseverance was one of nearly one hundred tugs and towboats that Cornell owned and operated on the Hudson River during the period 1837 to 1964. Cornell’s headquarters were right next to where the Maritime Museum is located on the Rondout Creek in Kingston.

THREE TIPS FOR STYLING AN ENTRYWAY

2018-07-31_11-26-37

via A Beautiful Mess – We’re still hard at work on our studio house—one mini space at a time. This week we completed two small spaces (double yay!), and today we’re teaming up with Martha Stewart Living at The Home Depot to share a few tips for styling an entry space.

But first, I must confess. I’m the worst at mini spaces. You know the ones. Too small to be a room, but still in need of decor and organization. I put them off and eventually get used to their half-finished status. They’re my blind spot.

But not this time! This time things are different. And you know what? I’m loving it. Our new entry space is inviting and organized. Since it’s the first thing we see when we walk through those doors every morning, I think of this space as our friendliest spot in the house, always waving “hell-oo-ooo!”
