The Special Olympics New York Polar Plunge is a unique pledge event that has become the premier annual fundraiser of Special Olympics New York across New York state. Participants raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics New York by asking family, friends, co-workers, etc. to support their efforts in “Freezin’ for a Reason” as they take the plunge into chilly waters.
“The more funds we raise, the more we can expand our programs, giving our athletes more opportunities to train and compete,” said Stacey Hengsterman, president & CEO of Special Olympics New York. “This event also helps to create awareness about our organization and what we do. I am amazed by how hard our athletes work. They face challenges, yet put so much time and effort into reaching their goals.”
Last year over 800 Plungers braved the frigid waters while spectators watched with excitement. These brave souls are your neighbors, friends, and of course, Special Olympics New York athletes.
Individuals and teams interested in registering can do so by visiting: www.polarplungeny.org. Donations are welcome and all funds raised help support the cost for athletes to participate in training and competitions.
Volunteers are also needed. All volunteers and participants will receive at least 10 hours of community service. You may contact Kaitlin Brennan at 212-661-5217 for more details.
