Take a Walk this Spring

077029_008_018Take a walk over the mighty Hudson River this spring … or any other time. The Walkway over The Hudson State Historic Park is waiting for you!

Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park spans the Hudson River between the Town of Lloyd (Ulster County) and the City of Poughkeepsie (Dutchess County.)

The original plan was to transform the abandoned Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge into a linear park traversing the Hudson River. The walkway, in partnership with New York State Parks, connects to the regional trail systems around it. A group of more than 125 volunteers from Ulster and Dutchess counties work to keep the walkway in tip-top shape for your visit.

The walkway is open daily from 7 AM until sunset and can be accessed from Highland or Poughkeepsie. A recent visit found a variety of food trucks located at the entrances for a snack before or after your walk. There are benches placed along the walkway so you can sit and rest a while while taking in the magnificent view.

Dog-friendly, handicap accessible, and open for a all levels of walkers. The walk is 1.28 gorgeous and inspiring miles from end to end. If you have any steam left, you can continue on to the Historic Poughkeepsie Walking Tour.
